Baker Hughes: North America Rig Count Up by 6
MIAMI, FL (DTN) –North American drilling activity increased in the week ended today, with rigs added in both the U.S. and Canada, according to Baker Hughes data release Friday (9/19).
The number of rigs operating in the United States rose by three to 542, down 46 rigs from the same week a year earlier.
Oil-directed rigs climbed by two to 418, while gas rigs held flat at 118. Miscellaneous rigs rose by one to six.
Land-based drilling added three rigs to reach 527. Offshore activity held steady at 13, and inland waters were unchanged at two. The Gulf of Mexico rig count was flat at 10.
Canada’s rig count increased by three to 189, with oil-directed rigs up two and gas rigs up one. Despite the gain, the total remains 22 rigs below year-ago levels.
The combined North American rig count rose by six to 731, 68 fewer than the 799 rigs counted in the same week of 2024.
