The cotton market continued to reach lower Tuesday as the supreme negativity from its bearish trend, poor demand, and net-short speculators are unrelenting. In fact, the December market posted a new contract low settlement Tuesday.
Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. EDT, USDA will issue its weekly crop condition numbers. Last week’s rating had the 2025 crop at 54% good to excellent. Last year at this time the crop was 40% good to excellent.
We note that due to the Labor Day observance, this week’s export sales report has been pushed back to Friday.
Also on Friday, the Labor Department will issue its jobs data for August. This number will likely influence Fed opinion concerning any future reduction in U.S. interest rates.
The 6- to 10-day weather outlook (Sept. 7-Sept. 11) shows below to much-below temperatures for much of the U.S. Cotton Belt. Rain-wise, the Southeast and the Delta boast normal to slightly above-normal chances, while Texas is slated to see above to much-above normal precipitation.
For Tuesday, December 2025 ended at 66.05 cents, down 49 points, while March 26 settled at 67.91 cents, off 53 points. Tuesday’s estimated volume was 46,704 contracts.
