DTN Weekly DDG Price Unchanged on Average

MINNEAPOLIS (DTN) — The average DTN spot price for domestic distillers dried grains (DDG) from 33 locations reporting for the week ended Jan. 29 was $162 per ton on average, unchanged versus one week ago.

DDG prices were mixed but steady on average for the week, with the cash corn price higher again and soybean meal prices up $0.20 versus one week ago. As for cash corn, the DTN National Average Corn Index was up 8 cents versus one week ago.

Based on the average of prices collected by DTN, the value of DDG relative to corn for the week ended Jan. 29 was 1.053%. The value of DDG relative to soybean meal was 54.73% and the cost per unit of protein for DDG was $6.00 compared to the cost per unit of protein for soybean meal at $6.23.

U.S. Grains and Bioproducts Council, in its weekly distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) export market prices report, showed March prices as of Jan. 29: CIF NOLA barge price was down $5 at $214 metric ton (mt) versus on week ago; FOB vessel Gulf price was down $1 at $247 mt; rail delivered PNW was up $7 at $262; and rail delivered to California was up $4 at $240 mt.

USDA used Census Bureau data released Thursday, Jan. 29, to provide more details for exports of DDGS. U.S. exports of DDGS totaled 933,557 mt in November, down from 1,067,246 mt in October, and down 4% from June 2024. DDGS exports are running 3.2% behind 2024 through November. Mexico was the top destination in November, taking 20% of U.S. exports and was followed by South Korea and Vietnam.

The Energy Information Administration reported on Wednesday, Jan. 28, that overall ethanol production in the United States averaged 1.114 million bpd in the week ended Jan. 23, down 5,000 bpd versus last week and 99,000 bpd, or 9.8% higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 1.132 million bpd was 54,000 bpd above the same four weeks last year. Midwest ethanol production averaged 1.055 million bpd, down 11,000 bpd versus last week and 91,000 bpd, or 9.4% higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 1.075 million bpd was 52,000 bpd above the same four weeks last year.
