Warm Anomalies Persist

Widespread warm temperatures will greet the region today, with highest anomalies across the Dakotas at up to 6-10 degrees above normal.

General Overview: ACTIVE WEATHER PATTERN ACROSS THE NATION WITH WIDESPREAD RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS AFFECTING THE NORTHERN ROCKIES, NORTHERN PLAINS, AND PORTIONS OF THE WEST. HEAVY RAIN AND POTENTIAL FLASH FLOODING POSSIBLE IN NEW MEXICO. COASTAL AREAS FROM THE GULF COAST TO THE NORTHEAST WILL EXPERIENCE PERIODS OF RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS. TEMPERATURES WILL TREND ABOVE NORMAL ACROSS THE NORTHERN PLAINS AND BELOW NORMAL ALONG THE WEST COAST.

EAST:  A frontal boundary will bring periods of rain and thunderstorms to coastal areas from the Gulf Coast through the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast through the forecast period. High pressure will build into the Northeast by Friday, bringing drier conditions. The Southeast coast will continue to see rain and thunderstorm activity, particularly along the immediate coastline. Some rain will extend inland across portions of Georgia and the Carolinas. By the weekend, conditions should improve as high pressure dominates much of the region.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-4: Near normal temperatures for most areas with slightly below normal readings (-3 to -6°F) in isolated pockets of Georgia and the Carolinas. Coastal areas will see temperatures close to seasonal averages.

-Days 5-8: Temperatures trending near normal across most of the region with some slight warming trend beginning in the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic.

-Days 9-10: Slightly above normal temperatures (+2 to +4°F) developing across portions of the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes, with near normal conditions elsewhere.

CENTRAL:  An active weather pattern will affect the Central Plains and Northern Plains with multiple low-pressure systems bringing rain and thunderstorms. Areas of heavy rain with potential flash flooding are indicated for portions of New Mexico on Friday. Thunderstorm activity will be widespread across the Northern Plains, gradually shifting eastward through the period. By the weekend, a warm front will develop across the Central Plains, bringing additional precipitation chances to the region.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-4: Above normal temperatures developing across the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest, with anomalies reaching +6 to +10°F in Iowa and Nebraska by Sunday. Near normal temperatures elsewhere.

-Days 5-8: Continued above normal temperatures across the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest, with the warmest anomalies (+6 to +8°F) centered on Iowa, Minnesota, and the Dakotas.

-Days 9-10: Slightly above normal temperatures (+2 to +5°F) persist across much of the Central and Northern Plains, gradually moderating by day 10.

WEST:  Multiple low pressure systems will affect the Western states, bringing widespread rain and thunderstorm activity to the Northern Rockies, Pacific Northwest, and portions of the Great Basin. Mixed precipitation will occur in parts of Colorado, Idaho, and Wyoming. Several areas of low pressure will move through the region, maintaining unsettled conditions. The Southwest will see scattered thunderstorm activity, particularly across Arizona and New Mexico, where heavy rain and flash flooding will be possible.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-4: Below normal temperatures along the West Coast, particularly in California where anomalies of -3 to -6°F are expected. Above normal temperatures (+3 to +6°F) across portions of the Northern Rockies and interior Northwest.

-Days 5-8: Continued below normal temperatures along the immediate West Coast with above normal temperatures (+3 to +6°F) persisting across the Northern Rockies and expanding into the Great Basin.

-Days 9-10: Temperature anomalies moderating with slightly above normal readings (+2 to +4°F) across much of the interior West and near normal conditions returning to coastal areas.
