Seven of the eight major fertilizers were slightly higher compared to last month. DTN designates a significant move as anything 5% or more.

Farmers could see even higher fuel and fertilizer costs for this spring with the start of the military conflict between the U.S. and Israel against Iran in the Middle East, according to a recent DTN article by DTN Ag Policy Editor Chris Clayton: https://www.dtnpf.com/agriculture/web/ag/columns/washington-insider/article/2026/03/02/us-iran-escalation-drive-input-costs.

The now closed Strait of Hormuz moves about 20 million barrels of crude oil and other petroleum products each day, which is about 20% of global demand. Diesel futures prices moved to a two-year high on Monday.

Fertilizer exports also move through the Strait. About a quarter of the globally traded nitrogen market moves through the waterway, according to a fertilizer analyst.

As a result, nitrogen fertilizer at the port of New Orleans has seen an increase in price this week. Urea prices for barges in New Orleans traded $520/ton to $550/ton on Monday, up from an average of $475/ton last week, according to CRU Group.

All eight fertilizers are now higher in price compared to one year earlier.

10-34-0 is 3% higher, both MAP and potash are 9% more expensive, both DAP and urea are 12% higher, anhydrous is 15% more expensive, UAN32 is 17% higher and UAN28 is 18% more expensive looking back to last year.

DTN gathers fertilizer price bids from agriculture retailers each week to compile the DTN Fertilizer Index. DTN first began reporting data in November 2008.
