Warming Trend Continues
Warm anomalies up to 2-6 degrees above normal will continue for most areas today.
General Overview: WIDESPREAD RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED ACROSS MUCH OF THE NATION OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS WITH HEAVY RAIN/FLASH FLOODING POSSIBLE IN SOUTH DAKOTA. MULTIPLE FRONTAL SYSTEMS WILL MOVE ACROSS THE COUNTRY, BRINGING PRECIPITATION TO THE NORTHERN PLAINS, MIDWEST, AND PORTIONS OF THE EAST COAST. ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES WILL DOMINATE ACROSS THE NORTHERN PLAINS AND WESTERN REGIONS.
EAST:
A low pressure system will move through the Northeast on Wednesday and Thursday, bringing rain and thunderstorms to coastal areas from the Mid-Atlantic into New England. The system will push offshore by Friday, with high pressure building in behind it. Rain will be most widespread on Wednesday, with some thunderstorm activity possible along the immediate coast. By Thursday, precipitation will shift primarily to New England as the low moves northeastward. The Mid-Atlantic and Southeast will see generally drier conditions heading into the weekend as high pressure dominates.
Temperature Anomalies:
-Days 1-4: Near normal temperatures for most of the region with slight cooling along coastal areas where precipitation is occurring. Parts of the Mid-Atlantic may see slightly below normal temperatures on Thursday.
-Days 5-8: Temperatures trending slightly above normal across most of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, with anomalies of 2-4°F above normal.
-Days 9-10: Continued mild conditions with temperatures remaining 2-4°F above normal across most of the region.
CENTRAL:
An active weather pattern will affect the Central US with multiple systems moving through. The most significant weather will be across the Northern Plains, where heavy rain and possible flash flooding is indicated for portions of South Dakota. A frontal boundary will push through the region Wednesday into Thursday, bringing widespread rain and thunderstorms from the Dakotas through the Midwest. Another system develops later in the week, maintaining precipitation chances across the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest. The Central Plains will see scattered thunderstorm activity, while the Southern Plains remain mostly dry.
Temperature Anomalies:
-Days 1-4: Significantly above normal temperatures across the Northern Plains, with anomalies of 6-12°F above normal, particularly in North Dakota and northern Minnesota. Near normal temperatures elsewhere.
-Days 5-8: Continued above normal temperatures spreading across most of the Central region, with the warmest anomalies (4-8°F above normal) remaining in the Northern Plains.
-Days 9-10: Mild conditions persisting with temperatures 2-6°F above normal across most of the region, gradually moderating by day 10.
WEST:
Multiple low pressure systems will affect the Western US over the next several days. Rain and thunderstorms will be most widespread across the Southwest, Great Basin, and portions of California. The Pacific Northwest will see periods of rain, particularly along the coast. A low pressure system over the Southwest will gradually move eastward, bringing scattered thunderstorm activity to the Four Corners region. By the weekend, precipitation chances decrease across much of the region as high pressure builds in over the Rockies.
Temperature Anomalies:
-Days 1-4: Above normal temperatures across the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies, with anomalies of 4-8°F above normal. Near normal temperatures elsewhere.
-Days 5-8: Continued above normal temperatures across most of the West, with the warmest anomalies (4-6°F above normal) in the Northern Rockies and Pacific Northwest.
-Days 9-10: Mild conditions persisting with temperatures 2-4°F above normal across most of the region, particularly in the interior West.
