Severe Storms, Snow and Ice Thursday
Severe storms, heavy rain and snow threaten the Plains, Midwest and Great Lakes region Wednesday through Thursday.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are developing near the Ohio River Wednesday afternoon. A few of these could bring some strong wind gusts and hail as well as heavy rain going into Thursday. But the primary system is moving into the Plains Wednesday afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms will erupt this afternoon and evening in the Plains. Some of these could be severe with all hazards being possible. The system will move northeast through the Midwest for Thursday. More rounds of heavy rain and severe weather will be possible. On the northern edge, scattered snow showers have begun to develop in the Northern Plains. Those will intensify tonight and especially on Thursday, spreading into northern Minnesota as well. Between the snow and rain, it will be cold enough at the surface to produce areas of freezing rain from southern Minnesota through northern Michigan.
