FEEDER CATTLE 3340 425 2980
Compared to last week: Yearling steers and heifers were too lightly tested
today to develop any market trend. Calves of both sexes sold sharply higher in
a narrow comparison. Demand was very good for moderate offerings. Yearling
quality was mostly plain to average today with many cut back cattle seen off
earlier video sales. Many blemished yearling cattle were seen today. Despite a
lower quality offering, buyers showed very good demand, with very little price
difference seen between blemished and non blemished cattle. Calves sold on very
good demand as well. Calf quality was average to very attractive. Many long
strings of calves sold today off reputation ranches. Demand for very light
weight calves was very good as buyers have already started buying calves to
develop into yearlings. Todays sale featured red angus calves. Several very
attractive sets sold this week with many sets selling for the same price as
their black hided counterparts. Demand for heavyweight calves was very good as
well, as buyers try to find cattle that will finish early enough to market
against the April board. CME positions traded sharply higher again today with
most contracts trading over 4.00 higher with some finishing over 5.00 higher. A
large crowd of buyers was on hand for todays sale and buyers all seemed to have
homes for all classes and weights. Market activity was active with a large
crowd on hand for todays sale.
