DTN Weekly DDG Price Slightly Higher on Average

MINNEAPOLIS (DTN) — The DTN spot price for domestic distillers dried grains (DDG) from 33 locations reporting for the week ended Oct. 23 was $146 per ton on average, up $1 versus one week ago.

DDG prices were mixed but slightly higher on average for the week, and the cash corn price was higher, while soybean meal prices were strong all week. The DTN National Average Corn Index was up 8 cents versus one week ago, with a higher national average basis adding to the strength in flat price.

Based on the average of prices collected by DTN, the value of DDG relative to corn for the week ended Oct. 23 was 0.955%. The value of DDG relative to soybean meal was 49.95% and the cost per unit of protein for DDG was $5.41 compared to the cost per unit of protein for soybean meal at $6.15.

U.S. Grains Council, in its weekly distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) export market prices report, showed November prices as of Oct. 23: CIF NOLA barge price was down 6 at $206 metric ton (mt); FOB vessel Gulf price was steady at $226 mt; rail delivered PNW was down $1 at $231; and rail delivered to California was down $5 at $219 mt. The Mississippi River at Memphis is at -7.76 feet below zero gauge and draft restrictions of 9’6″ are in place and are expected to go to 9’0″ next week if more rain doesn’t come. Dredges are starting to go to work at trouble spots and will stop or slow barge traffic heading to the Gulf for export.

The Energy Information Administration reported for the week ending Oct. 17, overall ethanol production in the United States averaged 1.112 million bpd, up 38,000 bpd versus last week and 30,000 bpd, or 2.9% higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 1.097 million bpd was 36,000 bpd above the same four weeks last year. Midwest ethanol production averaged 1.051 million bpd, up 27,000 bpd versus last week and 28,000 bpd, or 2.7% higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 1.038 million bpd was 38,000 bpd above the same four weeks last year.
